I posed this question to co-workers.
"Say aliens came to earth and told you that they were deleting every song by The Beatles, but you were allowed to save one song from being deleted from the fabric of time. Which one song would you save as a testament to all things Beatle? Which one song most represents the power and genius of the band?"
It doesn't matter why the aliens are deleting the Beatles catalog, or which planet they are from. It only matters that you have to save a single song, a song that contains the most Beatleness.
Of course you could do this with other bands. Hell you could do this with Baldwins.
As for Beatles song, I chose 'Ticket To Ride'
The Stones 'Gimme Shelter'
Styx 'Suite Madam Blue'
Baldwin - Alec

I chose Ticket to Ride as well.
See, this is a tough one because my favorite Beatles song is a George one, but if you could only save one, it would have to be a Paul or John one so I'm going to go with Yesterday. I agree with your Stones pick. There are no Styx songs worth saving other than perhaps Mr. Roboto for entertainment purposes only. I'd save Alec too although Steven and his new age religious crap is very amusing. Oh, and I'm a friend of Julie's. Love your blog.
Beatles: In My Life
Stones: Sympathy For The Devil
Styx: Come Sail Away
Baldwin: Edward, 4th Earl of Bewdley
I have to say I disagree on The Stones. I'd have to say Paint It Black.
Why is this so hard to pick?
My first instinct was also Ticket to Ride, but I will say Hey Jude instead.
As for the Baldwins, Alec has the most to show for himself and the highest in public opinion, however he's probably a cheeseball too. I'd say aliens can delete them all, but I don't know how I'd feel if I never had the memory of Beetlejuice.
